Choose evidence that matches the work
A software developer CV should help a reader understand the tasks you can contribute to. Start with problem decomposition, code review, testing only where these match the actual vacancy. The role title can cover different responsibilities in different organisations.
- For problem decomposition, describe a task you handled and how you checked the result.
- For code review, explain the method you used rather than simply naming the skill.
- For testing, show how you kept other people informed or left a reliable record.
Write a bullet from a real task
Use this practice pattern: handled a specific task, used a clear method, and produced an observable result. For example, if your work involved a defect that appears only for an unusual input, describe what you did to reproduce the issue, narrow the cause and verify the correction. Do not copy the scenario into your CV unless it reflects your experience.
If no reliable number is available, describe the outcome without adding a percentage. Distinguish helping, coordinating and owning the work; they are different levels of responsibility.
Build your application checklist
- Compare each example with a requirement in the actual vacancy.
- Keep dates and job titles accurate.
- Use a relevant learning or volunteering example if paid experience is limited.
- Prepare to explain the example without reading the CV.
